Sex, Drugs, & Rock n Bod:

Updated: Apr 25, 2023

Why Being Fit may be the most crucial decision you will ever make.

We have all seen the ads about working out and getting in shape. We all know the guy or gal at the office who can eat anything they want & still look great. So, being in shape is essential; or at least, that’s what everyone seems to be saying. But have you ever really thought about why? Sure, sex is great, & being attractive surely helps, but isn’t there more? 🤔

Well, if you ever wondered or thought you had a good handle on the whys, what you are about to read may enlighten you. What follows can put you on a journey that will not only be life-affirming but also life-changing! 🤩

Being in shape is more than working out. If done correctly, it can strengthen your Mind, Body & Spirit & make you a force to be reckoned with. Being fit has been shown to lead to better career opportunities & increased income, increase sex appeal, libido & stamina in the bedroom, extend your life, give you a better quality of life, and strengthen your Mind as well as Body, leading to greater confidence to overcome life’s obstacles through the Spirit of Will.

FITNESS and FINANCE

Who doesn’t want to make more money doing the same job? Well, if you ever wondered if your boss’s crush on a fellow employee led to higher income or a promotion, you could be right. Research has shown that “attractive people get paid more, get considered for more jobs, and have stronger social skills than unattractive people.”

Psychologists have a term for this, the “beauty premium.” Fundamentally, the income gap between attractive and unattractive people is comparable to those between ethnicities or genders.

It can equate to a 12% difference, which is substantial. So, you wanna raise? Getting in better shape may be one way to do it! Other benefits abound for the fit fellow or female, namely, sex. 😀

FIT for the Bedroom and Beyond

Sex is a part of life & for most of us, a wonderful one. If you could make it better, why wouldn’t you? Well, here are some of the whys & hows…

Most of us have heard that men are visual, while women are more emotional regarding sex. The truth is that BOTH men AND women are turned on by a sexy bod! Scientific research has shown that both men and women respond similarly to sexy images.

So if this is true, what does this mean? Both men AND women prefer a sexy body in a mate, and having an in-shape body increases the chances of finding a mate. Simply put, getting fit equals getting laid!

In a study reported by Psychology Today, women and men care about big muscles.

So, that reason alone is an excellent reason to get in shape!

Further, studies show regular exercise boosts libido & increases stamina in the bedroom, allowing for this joy to be extended!

FURTHER, a fit body equates to fitter offspring! What parent doesn’t want the very best for their kids? Well, being fit BEFORE you conceive can do just that! Sure, doctors had encouraged women to workout before & even during pregnancy to aid in delivery, but it can now be seen to do more! I’ve got 2 wonderful children, & I always knew in my bones that a fitter me and Mrs would equate to fitter children. I had long believed this to be true; I mean, why not? If our bodies are biomechanical vessels that evolve partially based on environmental factors, why wouldn’t it? 🧐 Well, recent studies have indicated just that!

“Parental exercise interventions were associated with differential DNA methylation patterns in offspring. These shifts in methylation patterns were consistent with concurrent changes in offspring mRNA levels, protein expression, and functional measures. Many of the observed changes were related to metabolic pathways. Hence, the evidence suggests that exercise‐induced epigenetic changes can be observed in offspring and may play a pivotal role among the multifactorial intergenerational‐health impact of exercise.”

This isn’t just for women however, a man’s initial contribution is also enhanced. 😎

“Given that exercise impacts sperm, it is reasonable to hypothesize that it also has the potential to induce intergenerational effects.”

Giving your kids a better chance at a healthy life BEFORE they are conceived? Wow, I mean WOW! 🤩

So this covers the joys of life creation; what about life extension?

FIT people LIVE LONGER and BETTER

Being fit can help you live longer. Research has shown that people who exercise consistently using resistance training can extend their lives by 10-17%.

With average lifespans in the USA at a little over 79 years currently, this equates to about an eight to fourteen-year extension! Gotta love that.

FURTHER, it’s not just longevity that matters, but the quality of your life too. Exercise has been shown to boost your mood, grant you better sleep, and aid digestion!

Further, being fit has been shown to:

  • Keep your Brain healthier 🤓 with an added ability to fight off Alzheimer’s!

  • Keep the weight off once lost.

  • Maintain healthy blood pressure levels, which helps prevent heart disease.

  • Help prevent, & even reverse diabetes. (I had personally had tremendous success with my clients who were Type 2 when they started, only to have it reversed within months!)

Also, understanding and choosing a healthy lifestyle has been shown to lead to other healthy lifestyle choices, such as abstinence from drugs, smoking, or alcohol. As a fitness professional, I can attest that being healthy is more important and rewarding than any temporary effects either drugs or alcohol can provide. I’m not saying I don’t have a drink occasionally, like after a long day watching the kids, celebrating the holidays, or when we get someone to watch the kids HAZZA! 😀 But the chances that I overdue it are greatly diminished, as I don’t like how I feel afterward & I love feeling great. Not feeling my best & the after-effects of overdoing it aren’t worth it. Many who choose a fit lifestyle come to the same conclusion. 🧗

Most of my clients end up feeling the same. Many reported a decrease in recreational drug or alcohol use, both of which help prevent the many damages these substances can cause. But wait! There's more. 😊 Exercise has been shown to help with addiction & recovery too.

“The moderate and high-intensity aerobic exercises, designed according to the Guidelines of American College of Sports Medicine, and the mind-body exercises can be an effective and persistent treatment for those with SUD.” (Substance Abuse Disorder)

It works for smokers too! After my clients have bought in & see the effects physical fitness is bringing them, I have had astounding success just “talking them out of it.” I would literally get smokers to quit within weeks and even days using the psychological technique known as “keeping it real.” I simply help them see that the cost-benefit analysis shows it isn’t worth it. That’s the “buy-in” part, but studies also show the direct impact of fitness on quitting smoking.

“To engage in physical activity has unexpected benefits for smokers. It improved the success rate for smoking cessation, reduced relapse rates, and extended life expectancy. Physical activity should be included as an essential aspect in the current guideline for smoking cessation.”

So what can we take away from all of this? If you want to quit, you must be Fit! 🤺 What if it’s gone on for too long & has caused severe problems?

FITNESS and FIGHTING CANCER

Fitness can greatly benefit those with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. God forbid you do get a disease like cancer. By being fit, you will be in a better position to fight it & recover from treatment much more quickly.

“Becoming more active or staying at your current level of physical activity before treatment may help you handle and recover from your treatment more easily. Research shows that being active may reduce surgery complications and help you handle treatment better.”

I know of this firsthand, having contracted cancer myself several years ago. While my form of cancer was very treatable, it has one of the harshest forms of treatment. So, thank goodness I was in great shape before I began treatment. In fact, one of my physicians said to me,

“I don’t mean to offend you, but you are in the best shape of anyone we have ever treated. We are excited to see how you handle the treatment!”

Well, I put on my bravest face and, with a faint smile, said, “Me too.”

I can attest that my high fitness level helped sustain me through the harsh treatments and, more importantly, allowed me to make an almost unprecedented recovery! 💪🏻😀 After eight weeks of radiation treatments & chemotherapy, I had to stay isolated for another 8 weeks before I could go to the gym due to immune system concerns. Once I got back to it, within eight weeks, I regained nearly 20 pounds of weight, and a large part of this was lean body mass! My strength levels returned to pre-cancer conditions & I felt fantastic. In fact, so many people who didn’t know what I went through would compliment me on how good I looked! “What is your secret?” they would ask. My reply with a smile was, “Cancer.” After their bedazzled and confused, “Really?” I’d then espouse how fitness helped me endure the unbearable and lent to my miraculous post-treatment results. Then I thanked them for noticing my recovery, and their look turned radiant. 😊

I have used this experience to help others who have gone through similar situations. ❤️‍🩹 I also used it to propel me to become stronger physically than ever before! In my 50’s too!! Within months I could Bench, Squat, Deadlift, Overhead press, and Leg Press far beyond my lifetime personal bests and at Elite levels for ANY age. 🏋🏻‍♂️ No enhancements, no steroids, just putting my decades of fitness expertise to work on myself.

Was this the only benefit? Heck no! This conditioning also helped me mentally through these trials.

STRENGTHENING your MIND along with your BODY gives you a Stronger SPIRIT

“We’re all put to the test... but it never comes in the form or at the point we would prefer, does it?”

Having trained in martial arts for 30+ years, I had hoped that whenever I put it to the test, it would be saving a young lady from a group of rogues! Or some such thing…

My great test was being diagnosed with cancer. In the quiet of my doctor’s office, I was absolutely leveled with a few words “You have cancer.” With a wife, child, and another child on the way, I only knew I had to live. However, I could not punch, kick, or physically battle my way out of this.

I can attest that being tuff doesn’t mean you don’t get knocked down; it means you don’t stay down. You’ve heard the saying, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog?” Well, through fitness, I was as ready as possible for the fight of my life!

Being fit, you recover from things faster and better than others. This was true when I was diagnosed, underwent treatment, and with my recovery. It was my mental fortitude that was key here, however. Why? Regular exercise helps you develop discipline, teaches you to overcome obstacles, stay positive, create goals, tolerate discomfort for a greater purpose, balance emotion with logic, look for explanations and not excuses, and fulfill your purpose. Psychologists cite all these things as mental exercises to strengthen your Mind.

Further, it builds resilience, improves your mood, and increases self-esteem,

And so much more.

All these factors helped me in my hour of need and got me through it much better than I could have ever hoped. Here is why:

Going through cancer isn’t just about the treatments; it’s about stress, anxiety, and depression too. We all have to deal with these at many points in our lives, and it’s not about getting knocked down; it’s how high and fast you bounce back and how you deal with it that defines you. Fitness helps here.

“Regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact on depression, anxiety, and ADHD. It also relieves stress, improves memory, helps you sleep better, and boosts your overall mood.”

We all know that someday we are going to die (except me, of course; I’m planning on being frozen like Walt Disney 😉😆), but it just seems so far off, almost not real. When you are told “you have cancer,” DEATH is what you hear. “You are going to die.” Stress, anxiety & depression hit you all at once. Being fit, physically & mentally, leads to strength of Spirit and Will. Yes, I was shocked to hear I had cancer. How was this possible? I’m in excellent shape, I take care of myself, etc. It was like getting kicked in the nuts, followed by a right cross from Tyson. “Ouch” doesn’t really cover it. I was dazed, at a loss, and thunderstruck… for about an hour.

Then, I dug deep, got the Good Lord involved, and got my head straight. I got myself together and with the help of family and friends got through it. In truth, family & friends could only do so much. It was my ability to cope that I had developed through decades of training in the martial arts, as well as all the rigorous conditioning in the gym, that really set me up for success. That, and by pushing myself to the limits of failure in my training, my understanding and faith in what lies beyond me grew stronger. You can call it what you want; I call it God. My will & faith developed through training were strong.

Yes, I suffered all the damming thoughts, slings, and arrows that all do with this prognosis and treatment, but being fit helped get me through it. My Mind, body, & soul was forged in fitness, tempered by discipline and hard work, and that is what helped get me through.

Being fit in Mind, Body, and Spirit helped me more than words can say. I can tell you that where the Mind leads, the body follows. You develop a strong spirit and will by developing a strong mind and body. You will never regret developing this Triumvirate, for done with care, they will serve you all your life. You can forge yourself through fitness.

FORGING AHEAD with your FITNESS

Getting going on your fitness is paramount.

Does being fit solve all of life’s problems? No.

Does it set a solid foundation from which to launch your adventures? Absolutely.

It doesn’t matter if you have never tried fitness or tried many times in the past only to fail, or perhaps worse, achieve your fitness goals only to lose them. It is not too late.

It all begins anew with a decision,

It doesn’t have to be perfect; just set sail.☀️⛵🌊 Then, do and learn and do. Surround yourself with friends and experts who do it better or know it better than you. Learn, and then do. YOU are worth it. Treat yourself like the unique, magnificent person you are, and settle for nothing less than the best.

You will never regret being fit. It may not only be one of the most crucial decisions you will ever make in your life but perhaps the most fulfilling.
